Civilians die after police shootout in Philippines

The BBC has reported at least 16 people have been killed in a shootout between gunmen and police in the Philippine capital, Manila.
Manila police chief Leopoldo Bataoil told reporters the men belonged to a gang that was planning to rob a warehouse in the suburb of Paranaque.
Some of the men were armed with rifles fitted with grenade launchers and started to fire indiscriminately after realising they were being followed by police.
At least 11 gang members died.
A young girl was among a group of civilians who died in the gunfire.
