Iran allows inspectors into nuclear facility
Nepal News.Net Friday 21st August, 2009
Iran has allowed International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors into the site of a heavy water nuclear reactor.
The visit occurred last week, after the IAEA had been pushing Tehran to grant it access to the Arak site.
IAEA nuclear officials wanted access to be able to verify the site was not being used to make weapons.
The IAEA had been blocked by Iran for almost a year after Tehran insisted its nuclear program was only aimed at power production and scientific research.
But it is expected the next IAEA report will show there has been further growth in enrichment activities at Arak.
The IAEA said in June that the plant was swiftly outgrowing the agency's ability to monitor it effectively, with some 5,000 centrifuge machines engaged in enriching uranium.
