DHAKA, July 5 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from COVID-19 in Bangladesh has surpassed 2,000, a health official announced here Sunday.
Senior Health Ministry official Nasima Sultana said in a briefing on Sunday afternoon that 2,738 new cases and 55 more deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll in the country to 2,052 and total cases to 162,417.
A total of 13,988 samples were tested in the last 24 hours in labs across the country, she said.
The total number of recovered patients stood at 72,625 including 1,904 new recoveries.
Bangladesh recorded the highest daily jump of 4,019 cases on July 2, and the highest daily death toll of 64 on June 30.
