BRUSSELS -- Record month-on-month increases in total industrial production in both the European Union (EU) and the eurozone have been attributed by the EU's statistics office Eurostat to "member states easing COVID-19 containment measures."

The figures published on Tuesday reveal an impressive 12.4 percent month-on-month increase in total industrial production in May, after falls of 18.2 percent in April and 11.8 percent in March registered in the 19 countries of the eurozone. (EU-Eurozone-Industrial Production)

SEOUL -- South Korea's employment kept falling for four straight months to June as companies led employees to go on an unpaid leave or be laid off amid an economic fallout from the COVID-19 outbreak, statistical office data showed Wednesday.

The number of those employed totaled 27,055,000 in June, down 352,000 from a year earlier, according to Statistics Korea. It continued to fall for four straight months since March. (S. Korea-Employment-Drop)

JAKARTA -- Indonesia's trade balance in June 2020 showed a surplus of 1.27 billion U.S. dollars with the export value of 12.03 billion U.S. dollars and the import value of 10.76 billion U.S. dollars, according to the Central Agency of Statistics.

"June's trade balance is encouraging because exports are growing and imports are also growing. The exports are growing in all sectors including agriculture, industry and mining. Hopefully, this would be a positive signal for the following months," the agency's head Kecuk Suhariyanto told a virtual press conference on Wednesday. (Indonesia-Trade Balance-Surplus)

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia received 1.17 million foreign visitors during the first five months of 2020, down 59 percent from 2.88 million over the same period last year, said a report released by the Ministry of Tourism on Wednesday.

China, Vietnam, Thailand, the United States and South Korea were the biggest sources of foreign tourists to the Southeast Asian country during the January-May period this year, the report said. (Cambodia-Tourism-COVID-19)
