NEW DELHI -- The COVID-19 situation has exploded in India, as a record number of 184,372 cases were registered in a single day, between Tuesday and Wednesday.

The number of new cases has been consistently on the rise over the past couple of weeks, and have been above 100,000-mark/day for almost ten days. As many as 1,027 deaths were recorded in 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 172,085. This is the highest single-day spike this year. (India-COVID-19-Record high infections)

SUVA -- The Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) has expressed deep concern about Japan's decision to dump nuclear wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the sea and urged Japan to rethink about such a decision.

According to a statement by the PIF on Wednesday, PIF Secretary General Dame Meg Taylor said that the PIF noted, with deep concern, the decision by the Japanese government to discharge the Advanced Liquid Processing System (ALPS) Treated Water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station into the Pacific Ocean, and wished to highlight and reiterate the position of the Pacific Islands Forum region in relation to this matter. MANILA -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported on Wednesday 8,122 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 892,880.

The death toll climbed to 15,447 after 162 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said. The coronavirus spread has not slowed down, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in an online briefing. (Philippines-COVID-19-Tally)

SEOUL -- South Korea's employment marked the first rebound in 13 months last month, showing signs of recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, statistical office data showed Wednesday.

The number of those employed totaled 26,923,000 in March, up 314,000 from a year earlier, according to Statistics Korea. It was the first turnaround since February last year. (South Korea-Unemployment rate)
