DHAKA, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh reported 1,682 new COVID-19 cases and 37 new deaths on Friday, taking the tally to 770,842 and death toll to 11,833, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

The official data showed that 17,013 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across the country.

The total number of recovered patients in the country stood at 704,341 including 2,178 new recoveries on Friday, said the DGHS.

According to the official data, the COVID-19 fatality rate in Bangladesh is now 1.54 percent and the current recovery rate is 91.37 percent.

Bangladesh recorded the highest daily new cases of 7,626 on April 7 and the highest number of deaths of 112 on April 19.
