KATHMANDU, Nepal - Nepal's Army Chief is scheduled to visit the United States, signaling an increase in high-level political and military engagement between Kathmandu and Washington.

According to sources, Chief of the Army Staff Gen Prabhu Ram Sharma will fly to the United States just before Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba's visit.

According to the sources, Sharma has already been invited by the U.S. Department of Defense.

According to the schedule, Prime Minister Deuba will fly to Washington in early or mid-July for the first official visit by a Nepali prime minister to the United States in two decades.

The Pentagon will host Gen Sharma ahead of the prime minister's visit, and the Nepal Army is planning additional visits at various levels.

Brig Gen Narayan Silwal, a spokesperson for the Nepal Army, told the Post that preparations for Gen Sharma's visit to the United States and some countries where Nepal Army personnel have been deployed as peacekeepers are underway.

"The Pentagon has extended an invitation to the chief." "A formal announcement with dates will be made once the Cabinet approves," said Silwal.
