SINGAPORE: A gold-copper statue of Aghoreswora (Nil Barahi), which was lost from a Pharping 23 years ago, has been discovered in a prestigious museum in Singapore.
On June 16, 1999, the archaeologically significant Nepal Samvat 756 carved icon was lost from Pharping Town.
According to the "Lost Arts of Nepal" campaign, the 756 Samvat (1636 CE) image of Aghoreswora (Nil Barahi), stolen in 1999 from Pharping, has been discovered in the collection of the Asian Civilisations Museum in Singapore.
On the occasion of Hari-Shankar Jatra, it is customary to take seven idols of God, such as Nil Barahi, across the Pharping area. Because four idols were stolen, the Jatra is being performed with their replicas.
The Asian Civilisations Museum, founded in 1997, is one of Singapore's four museums.
