ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office on Sunday, Pakistan is verifying reports that the banned terrorist organization Daesh's branch in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was behind the terrorist attack on Pakistan's embassy in Kabul.

"We have seen reports that IS-KP has accepted responsibility for the terrorist attack on the Pakistan Embassy compound on 2 December 2022," the FO spokesperson said in a statement. We are independently verifying the veracity of these reports and in consultation with Afghan authorities."

The spokesperson said it was "yet another reminder of the threat that terrorism poses to peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region."

"We must act resolutely with all of our collective might to defeat this menace," said the statement, adding that Pakistan remains committed to combating terrorism.

There were reports in the press on Sunday that Daesh claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement posted on one of the militant group's affiliated Telegram channels.

Pakistan's embassy in Kabul came under attack on Friday with Charg d'Affaires (CdA) to Afghanistan Ubaidur Rehman Nizamani targeted but escaped miraculously. His guard received three bullets in the chest and was transferred to a hospital in Pakistan.
